A dog’s dignified demise using cannabis
In the spring of 2008 I received a call from my friend and an Australian Shepherd breeder and trainer. He had just returned from the vet with oldest (13 yrs) bitch Anna, and sadly the diagnosis was Alzheimer’s.
The classic symptoms included
1. Incontinence.
2. Inability to find her way out of a corner.
3. Loss of desire to go for walks.
4. Loss of desire to socialize with the other four dogs.
The vet's Aricept prescription was expensive and had only diminishing benefits, so he called me; the most knowledgeable person he knew on alternative methods of treatment for the disease.
I am not a doctor, but am primary care giver for my Stage 7 Alzheimer's mother using cannabis therapy, which was Richard's primary area of interest. He is also the breeder from whom I got my current 12 year old red Aussie Maggie, an accomplished lover and one of the greatest joys in my life.
I had previously supplied him my with my sedative July 4th cannabis formulation for noise sensitive dogs, and he was more than pleased with its effectiveness, while being more gentle and less discombobulating than the alternatives.

I've had a friend who found the cinnamon oils in the HOA topical extremely irradiating/ burning when applied to open sores/broken skin.
Just wondering why the emu oil is not included in the oral recipe, as it has many bennefits orally. Also, while shopping for myrrh gum oil I found just 100% commiphora myrrh oil, will that work? Thanks for posting this, and all the research yall do! #respect

Huh? I don't mean to be rude, but you took out one of the main healing ingredients altering the remedy which does not work the same way without it..that being olive oil. You posted as to why you changed it, but bottom line is someone with a scientific perspective thought they could "improve" it but now it's not the original remedy any longer. Coconut oil does not have the same spiritual properties or historical use as olive and was obviously not used in the region. For it to be authentic it must be precisely what was used and made using the same methods as well. BHO not authentic either..try making it exactly as instructed with the old methods and see the difference! Peace :-)

Spiritual properties are an elusive property and our direct experience trying oils, is that they both work and we've already explained why we chose coconut oil. For what its worth, it worked with all of the vegetable and nut oils that we tried, leading us to believe the oil isn't the ingredient with the pain relieving qualities. For those seeking the elusive property you describe, I suggest making a batch using the original ingredients and methods for comparison. Context and perspective are important on this secular site, my brother Jacob. The proscription is because Holy Anointing Oil was for the Jewish priesthood, not for us'n lower lived common folkels. A patriarchal society at the time, where all were not considered to have equal rights, including even entering the temple. They range from deeply devout to the religion of their choice, to self serving pedophiles. They are just people, with nothing to suggest their words are sacred, or that they are all trustworthy. Have you researched it to insure that some religion doesn't proscribe it, so we can be assured of not being "cut off from our people", or going to hell? I've done it with QWET and its quite tasty and quite potent. Rather than evaporating the ethanol, I use a simple still, (bought on on amazon or ebay), to reclaim the ethanol. I stop the distillation at the moment the temperature rises above 150 degrees centigrade. Then I the mix the residue, (hash oil), in the pot with the coconut & cinnamon oils and continue to heat the hash oil solution until no large bubbles remain.
Stupid me. I meant 150 degrees Fahrenheit, not Centigrade. And that leads me to a question. Why is the ethanol boiling off at 150 degrees and not 173 degrees? P.S. Also the nifty thing about this is that it's a 'one pot' process that minimizes the loss of hash oil.
Just curious, what elevation are you at? When I lived in Arizona, we were in the "High" Desert (love that pun!), 4200 feet elevation, and that actually lowered the boiling point of water so much we considered a pressure cooker for pasta..... It may also be the thermometer you're using is a tad inaccurate. Bullet point: Higher elevation you are, lower the air pressure. Lower air pressure, lower boiling points.

I am caring for a dementia patient that I've been providing cannabis brownies to in small quantities this appears to help her for a short time ever I'm very grateful for the recipes that followed the story. My patients family are all for the cannabis treatment instead of all the pharmaceuticals she's been given.
Sorry, I should have added that I wish to produce my own patches ... not buy pre-made products .... I feel much more comfortable knowing what is in my medicine .... so I grow my own organically and carry out all phases of its production to winterized cannabis oil.
I would do a patent search if I wanted to know how others have been successful.
Hi .... I treat my hypertension with medible cannabis, and thruout the day, have it under control. I mix 10 grams of winterized BHO with 90 ml of organic coconut oil .... I keep it in the fridge, and take a 'smidge' on a spoon/under my tongue several times a day .... not super scientific, but it takes me from 145 to 120 ....... My issue is at night ...... the 'smidge' doesn't last through the nights sleep (nor does increasing the dose), and I wake up between 140-160 systolic in the morning. so the question is ...... How cam I make a slow release, or time release, or, ideally, a transdermal patch (to put the thc in my system, without my stomachs involvement)? Any ideas??? Thanks in advance Steve

I was getting ready to make some and it seems I would need 20+ grams of cannabis oil just to fill a one ounce dropper bottle. 1 gram of cannabis oil per 0.47 grams of combined coconut and essential oils seems very potent. I am making a CBD tincture for sublingual application for treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia.

The Emu Oil in their Topical Holy Anointing Oil has a high percentage of Oleic Acid which has the same skin penetrating qualities as DMSO. DMSO has been on the FDA's shitlist for some time and probably for the same reasons as cannabis, (there's a lot more money to made in alternate products). If you are going to use DMSO topically, make sure where it came from. Never use industrial grade DMSO because the any crappy by-products in it will get absorbed into your body along with the DMSO and whatever you've added to it.
Another MAJOR drawback to DMSO is the taste, I worked in a lab awhile ago, and had to work with the stuff. If you accidentally got some DMSO on your skin, everything tasted like Burnt Garlic for the next couple of hours. But the strange thing was that the DMSO itself had no smell at all.
Yup, it is only moments before you can taste it, after putting it on your skin anywhere.
I don't understand where the cannabis is in the original recipe. It seems that there was an anointing oil in the bible, and cannabis is being arbitrarily added? Cassia is an aromatic bark, similar to cinnamon. Why is the jump being made that cassia = cannabis? I've done a small bit of research, and it seems that most believe that cassia was NOT cannabis, and that only a small section of scholars believe it was.
Cassia is cassia. Cinnamon is cinnamon. Myrrh is myrrh. But sweet calamus is a mistranslation of the Hebrew texts. According to many scholars, the original text read 'sweet cane.' The ancient Hebrew word 'kaneh-bosm,' which is believed to be the etymological root for 'cannabis,' appears five times in the Old Testament (Exodus, the Song of Songs, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel). It's use is described as both an incense and an intoxicant. Furthermore, sweet calamus is poisonous to humans and would never have been used by ancient people in medicinal preparations.
Sweet calamus is definitely not poisonous to humans! The root, when chewed, acts on digestion and such. Go check out Erowid's website, he discusses his experiences with calamus. Calamus is also used in herbal homeopathy with no ill effects, and is good for skin related disorders. Not as good as calendula or plantain, but it has its place. The Bible is pretty clear on keeping a clear head; many admonitions against drunkenness and intoxication, both new and old testaments. Do you actually think that the Bible would give a recipe for priest's getting 'high' with a Holy Anointing Oil? Seriously? Come on now...
Anointing (correct spelling) oil is a topical preparation. Cannabis infusions for topical application don't cause psychoactive effects. Cannabinoids appear to have anti-inflammatory properties and are able to relieve pain without the negative side effects of opioid painkillers.
The use of cannabis does not necessarily equal intoxication. If the THCA molecule has not been decarboxylated it is not psychoactive. I have had my Holy Anointing Oil laboratory tested. Made according to the Exodus recipe, the oil contains: THCa (non-psychoactive): 1.03mg/ml THC (psychoactive): 0.34mg/ml CBD (non-psychoactive): 0.07mg/ml CBDa (also non-psychoactive): 0.58mg/ml CBN (psychoactive): 0.01mg/ml In cannabis terms, this is a very small concentration and anyone would be hard pressed to 'get high' off of it. I think the fragrant cane is being interpreted as cannabis. Cassia is being interpreted as cassia, which is a cinnamon like fragrant bark or some such.
Hey skunk, Have you ever tested soy lecithin in your edible oils? And if so what were your results? I have used it when making suckers with bho and coconut oil, and I believe the cannabinoids are absorbed better into to your body. More bang for the buck some say. Since lecithin is an emulsifier, everything in the edible is absorbed readily. This is what I have researched, and some experiments I have done. So I do not know if this is fact or not. What do you think? And could soy lecithin help with the absorption with the topicals by chance? Thanks TJ
Do I win a prize if my tincture treats people more effectively with 5mg of THC with a total of ~18mg of canabinoids and only the scarcest of chances of getting high? Yes, I intended on a minimal dose of THC and only included it because of patients incessant demands for it despite its complete lack of necessity in the majority of cases. Did anyone ever consider that the bible (or any religious/ancient document) might not be the best source for medicine? There is plenty of modern clinical research which demonstrates the pharmacological nature of most of the substances involved here, and I never once referred to a document older than 50yrs old to discover its nature.

But the point of the article was not that the bible might be "the best source for medicine," or that it's necessary to use documents "older than 50 years old" to find relevant information; but rather just to point out that cannabis has been used in healing for a very long time.
